Axolotls in the Classroom: Early classroom partner program
Bring a rescued axolotl into your classroom
A new educational program from Libertyland Axolotl Rescue for New England classrooms. We are gathering interest for a pilot that may include donated tank setups, setup guidance, an adopted axolotl, and an in‑person educational visit. Sign up to be an early classroom partner.
About the program
Libertyland Axolotl Rescue is developing a classroom partnership program that connects rescued axolotls with New England schools. The goal is to support educators who want to integrate animal care, science, and ethical pet ownership into their learning environment.
We are gathering interest while we explore funding, donated equipment availability, and the logistics needed to launch a small pilot round. Your interest helps shape the program and guides our next steps.
Why axolotls in the classroom?
Axolotls naturally spark curiosity and support a wide range of learning opportunities.
Science and observation
Students can explore water quality, nitrogen cycles, amphibian biology, and environmental stewardship.Ethical pet ownership
The program models adoption, rehabilitation, and long term care.Cross curricular learning
Observation journals, art, research, enrichment design, and more.Calming classroom presence
Many classrooms find that quiet, low stress animals help create a calmer environment.
Who this program is for
We’re starting small so we can do this well.
New England classrooms
Elementary through high school
Science rooms, general education rooms, STEM labs, after school programs, environmental clubs
Educators who value long term care and are open to following welfare based standards
What the program may include
These elements reflect our goals for the pilot phase.
Donated or low cost equipment We are working to source donated tanks and supplies when possible. Availability will vary.
Setup guidance A team member would help you plan and set up a safe axolotl habitat. In person support may be limited to certain regions.
Adopting a rescued axolotl Once the tank is fully cycled and stable, your classroom could adopt an axolotl from the rescue.
Educational presentation When we deliver the axolotl, a team member would give an age appropriate talk on axolotl biology, habitat, and responsible care.
Ongoing support We would remain available for questions and care guidance.
Note: These items are goals, not guarantees. Final offerings depend on funding, donated equipment, and volunteer capacity.
How the pilot phase may work
