This is not a quick-reference cheat sheet. This is the thorough, science-backed, beautifully photographed guide the axolotl community has needed for a long time.
What's Inside: Every Morph Covered
The guide covers a variety of morphs (both real and imagined) in depth, with visual identification clues, genetics explanations, and care notes for each. A few examples include:
Wild Type: The genetic baseline. Olive-brown mottled patterning with gold-flecked eyes and iridescent sheen.
Melanoid: Deep matte charcoal-black, no iridophores, no shine whatsoever.
Leucistic: Man-made, pink-white body with dark eyes. The most photographed morph in the hobby.
Albino: Also man-made, pale body coloration with pale to red eyes. Warm xanthophore expression without melanophores.
Copper: Warm tan-to-cinnamon coloration, red eyes, comparatively rare in captive collections.
Axanthic: Reduced or absent xanthophores, producing a cool grey-to-silver coloration.
Hypomelanistic: Visual demonstration of altered/lessened pigment stacking with varying melanophore, iridophore, and xanthophore expression
