Donating Supplies & Coolers to Support LLAR

Every axolotl who enters Libertyland Axolotl Rescue begins a journey of stabilization, medical care, and safe placement. Many arrive with no equipment, unsafe setups, or urgent health needs — and donated supplies allow us to respond immediately.

If you’d like to support LLAR in a hands‑on way, donating supplies or pre‑boxed styrofoam coolers is one of the most impactful options. Below is a quick guide to what we accept, what we can’t use, and how to donate.

🐟 Acceptable Supply Donations

We gladly accept new or gently used axolotl‑safe supplies that help us support intakes, fosters, and medical cases.

✔️ We Accept:

  • Tanks (20L–60B gallons preferred; larger tanks welcome)

  • Filters (sponge filters, canisters, HOBs)

  • Air pumps & airline tubing

  • Hides (ceramic, PVC, resin, or aquarium‑safe)

  • Water test kits (API liquid test kits preferred)

  • Dechlorinator (Seachem Prime)

  • Medications (Seachem Kanaplex, Metroplex, PraziPro, Expel-P, Expel-F)

  • Cooling supplies (clip‑on fans, gently used or new water chillers)

  • Aquarium décor (smooth, aquarium‑safe items only)

  • Miscellaneous axolotl supplies (nets, turkey basters, siphons, 2.5G+ tubs)

We Cannot Accept:

  • Items with mold, rust, or structural damage

  • Tanks with cracks or leaks

  • Unsafe décor (sharp edges, painted items, metal components)

  • Used substrate

  • Opened medications or those past expiration

  • Anything previously exposed to reptiles or amphibians with known illness

If you’re unsure whether an item is acceptable, feel free to ask us on Facebook messenger or send us an email—we’re happy to help.

📦 Shipping Cooler Requirements

Pre‑boxed styrofoam coolers are essential for safe, temperature‑stable transport of axolotls. We reuse clean coolers to reduce waste and support sustainable rescue operations.

✔️ Coolers We Accept:

  • Styrofoam coolers with intact lids

  • Coolers already inside a cardboard shipping box

  • Interior dimensions at least 10" x 10" x 10"

  • Clean, odor‑free, and dry

  • No cracks, holes, or missing insulation

Coolers We Cannot Use:

  • Soft lunch‑bag style coolers

  • Coolers without their cardboard box

  • Coolers with stains, mold, or chemical smells

  • Damaged or broken styrofoam

Why We Need Them

Coolers allow us to safely ship axolotls to fosters, adopters, and partner rescues. They maintain stable temperatures, prevent stress, and protect animals during transit.

🚚 How to Donate Supplies or Coolers

Local Drop‑Off (Preferred)

We accept drop‑offs in various locations within reasonable distance of one of our fosters. Message us on Facebook or send us an email to coordinate a time and location.

Shipping Donations

If you’d like to ship supplies or coolers, please contact us first so we can confirm the best address and ensure someone is available to receive them.

Foster Supply Support

Some donated items go directly to fosters who need equipment for medical cases or long‑term stabilization. Your donation may support an axolotl’s recovery the same day it arrives.

❤️ Your Support Makes a Difference

Every tank, filter, cooler, and medication helps us provide safe, evidence‑based care to axolotls in need. Thank you for supporting LLAR’s mission and helping us protect these incredible animals.
